Recent developments in the prosecution of the CRISPR-Cas9 patent in Europe highlight the differences between the intellectual property regimes of Europe and the United States. The evolution of the clustered, regularly interspaced, short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)CRISPR-associated protein 9 (Cas9) system (CRISPR-Cas9) as a genome editing tool has undoubtedly been one of the hottest developments in biotech over the last few years.
